There are several myths related to asthma. One of them is that it limits your physical activities. Well, it is not the complete truth. Exercise is an inseparable part of our life and those who have asthma or allergy are generally able to exercise without any harm. In fact, a recent research has also revealed that a regular professionally guided program can help the asthma patient to manage asthma effectively. But you should not do it during the time you are sick.
Some tips are given here to prevent you from the attacks of allergy and asthma while exercising-
- Always keep your medicines with you. Whenever you go to the gym, pack your medicine in the bag. Patients with asthma may take the inhaler before doing exercises and those with some kind of allergy may take antihistamine tablets. If you take this medication before fifteen minutes of exercise, it will keep you all fine.
- Consider the environment and weather conditions. Those who have an allergy to dust mites can consider exercising outdoors at a properly cleaned place because there are dust particles in the household. Those with an allergy of weeds or grasses can choose an indoor location.
- Check the flow of air. It should neither be too cold nor too dry. Generally, warm and slightly moist air is perfect for people with asthma. Don’t ever exercise in industrial areas or areas with heavy traffic. These areas have an extreme level of irritating fumes.
- Participate in workouts that have a short span of time. This can make you more comfortable than those which involve long bursts. Swimming is the best option for people with asthma. This is so because swimming keeps your mouth hydrated. Other suitable options are tennis, baseball, and golf.
- During exercise, never breathe through your mouth, it can cause trouble because when you open the mouth to take the air in, your throat becomes dry and rough which triggers the attack.
- Start with mild exercises and gradually speed up and take some time to rest. Don’t stretch your limits. Be consistent while exercising.
You can easily keep yourself fit by understanding your health condition and reduce the frequency of attacks by a regular exercise routine. Initially, you can find it a little difficult but with time you can easily tackle them with a little more care and vigilance.
