Everyone wants to quit smoking, once they realize its hazardous effects on health and life. But the reasons to quit smoking may obviously vary from person to person. Motivation does urge an individual to quit smoking but apart from it, there are several issues which can develop a desire to quit smoking. There are various degrees of aspects which can help us bid farewell to smoke.
Apart from motivation, there are other areas which should be considered equally important in order to quit smoking. They are as follows:
- Fear- Fear does keep a person out of troubles but at times, it may also keep us away from doing things which we really want to do. Fear of losing a life is one of the crucial factors which keep away a person from quitting smoking. On the other hand, they have a constant fear of quitting smoking which serves them as much like an emotional succor. Fear may confuse a person and may put him in a dilemma and eventually may lower down his efforts of quitting smoking.
- Stress- Stress is also one of the major areas which may relapse a person’s wish to quit smoking. Firstly a person should approach positive and convenient ways by which stressful situations could be handled. It is quite obvious that a person will encounter stressful situations at the workplace, home, and his surroundings but managing it efficiently and intelligently will help you in the long run, making you happier without looking for cigarettes. One can practice various exercises such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing to cope up stress. One can always talk and discuss stressful issues with his friend or a family member.
- Our beliefs- Beliefs are actually what we generally perceive and it becomes quite harder to eventually come out of those fixed beliefs when it comes to quitting smoking. The worst effects are the ones which are psychologically developed within us and it is quite hard to loosen them suddenly. Avoiding the myths surrounding us, having an insight of one ’s self, and working on positive self- talk can help in saying bye to smoking. The common myth held by the smokers is that smoking helps in managing stress. But as opposed to the belief, it increases blood pressure and heart rate. One should actually realize the perilous and adverse effects of smoking and take a few deep breaths to analyze oneself and work upon the need to quit smoking.
Thus one should keep his motivation level high, keep reminding himself the ill-effects of smoking and the reason why he is quitting smoking. Moreover, he should think about the adverse effects his body will have to suffer due to smoking. Keep yourself away from negative thoughts and stick to your near and dear ones. Be positive enough and don’t let any reason suppress your desire to quit smoking.
